Eligibility to get real estate license
In order to successfully get a real estate license in Texas, you must be a US citizen or lawfully admitted alien, you must age 18 or older, and you must be a Texas resident.
Also in order to get a real estate license in Texas, there are certain required courses you must take.
However, the good thing about that part is that you can take the required real estate license courses from home.
For example, to get a real estate license in Texas you can sign up for a home study course through Continuing Education for Licensing Inc. (C.E.L.I.) in connection with Texas A&M University-Commerce and in this manner you can complete the necessary courses from home at your convenience.
To get credit for the courses, you must pay the tuition fee, get the necessary books, and then you must complete the courses.
Who are offering the course?
Several schools, institutions of higher learning and online programs, approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission, offer the essential real estate courses needed to obtain a real estate license in Texas.
The State of Texas requires that you successfully complete 150 hours of instruction in core real estate courses, plus 60 more hours of either core or related courses, before you can take the real estate salesperson’s license exam.
Check the website of the Texas Real Estate Commission, http://www.trec.state.tx.us/education/providers_core.asp, to see the list of approved schools and courses in your area.
After you complete this pre-licensure coursework, successfully pass the real estate salesperson’s exam and receive your real estate salesperson’s license, you must be sponsored by, and work under, an actively practicing real estate broker.
Remember too, that in addition to the initial coursework requirement there are mandatory continuing education courses which you must periodically complete in order to renew your license.
Once your application is submitted, processed and approved your now ready to take the online real estate licensing exam.
The first step after you receive the approval notice is to get the Candidate Information Brochure. Inside are study materials for the test, information on licensing and instructions on how to set up a time to take the exam.
DO NOT attempt to set an appointment to take the exam until you know your application has been approved.
You have six months after your application has been approved to take and pass the exam. By filing an application you are authorizing a background check as well as a possible investigation.
The investigation has caused denials for licensees even though all the other criteria were met. In the rare event an investigation is in order it will not begin until the examination has been passed.
